When you’re travelling around the world from one country to the next, switching time zones, losing days as well as sleep, it can be a little difficult to maintain a healthy exterior let alone the interior. Many readers ask me how I stay feeling fresh on the road, so here’s a list of some of the travel beauty products I wouldn’t leave home without:
1. Tarte Eyelash Curler & Mascara
The secret to travel makeup is simple: less is more. If there could be only one item of makeup I would be allowed to apply for the rest of my life, it would have to be mascara. Recently I was introduced to eyelash curlers (i know i know, I’m OH SO LATE to the party), and I think this tarte eyelash set is as good as it comes for a buy under $20.
2. Tweezerman
Tweezers. The tool of a traveller who appreciates looking and feeling groomed. I wouldn’t go anywhere without tweezers and neither should you. These ones by tweezerman are the cheapest AND good quality tweezers i have found – in fact, I travel with a back-up just incase.
3. Deborah Lippmann Gel Lab
When it comes to having healthy looking nails on the road, I’ve tried it all. Colours can be fun to play with, but with my disregard for…well… most things when I travel, means that they end up chipped within a day or two, if I’m lucky. Then I tried shellac nail-polish which seemed to me as if it were directly sent from the heavens above – until it absolutely ruined my nails. So the solution? If you don’t want lifeless nails on the road but want to keep it simple, I’d highly recommend this little at home lab. Its super easy, super cheap, and a super breakthrough in the nails department.
4. Real Techniques Travel Essentials
While it doesn’t have to be this particular set, I would highly recommend investing in a better brush kit for your travels. Keeping it simple is best and travel kits offer smaller sized versions for the road.
5. St. Tropez Mousse Self Tanner
There’s only one way to go about a self-tan: ST TROPEZ. I’ve tried many products on the market, but simply cannot beat this line of products when it comes to fake tanning at home and on the road. A cheaper option for the Aussies is to try the J Bronze range from Jennifer Hawkins – another brand with my tick of approval.
6. Aesop Hydrating Facial Cream
There’s no secret to clear skin aside from consistency. Investing in some better skincare products is one of the surest ways to feel happy and healthy on the road. Cleansing, toning, and moisturising in the mornings and evenings should still be a part of your daily routine, as well as upping the water intake with all that added walking + exercise you’ll be doing.
7. Eve Lom Cleanser
Hands down, my favourite cleanser on the market…ever. This beauty is super soft on your skin but still has a light beaded element, while also providing necessary moisture for your skin. Though a little pricey, this cleanser is worth every. single. penny. Vogue even described it as “probably the best cleanser in the world”. I cannot recommend this enough!
8. Drybar Dry Shampoo
Dry shampoo is in my eyes the best invention of this millennium. Seriously, where were we without dry shampoo!? Washing our hair daily!? Honestly! How much time I have saved from lasting days and days on dry shampoo alone.
9. Revlon Illuminator
For a long time now, this bargain of a beauty product has been my secret weapon. Simply dab a little under your outer eye area to brighten your entire complexion and make you look WAY fresher than you feel. This is perhaps my favourite beauty product of all time.
10. MAC Concealer
The only way to cover up if you ask me! MAC Concealers are a life saver. They’ll hide all the dullness, spots, or puffy eyes. Sure, there are cheaper concealers out there — but none work quite as well as MAC.
11. Clinique All About Eyes
If there’s one issue I’ve faced on the road that I never faced at home, its how to deal with constant jetlag / lack of sleep / and consequential puffy eyes. Though I use a range of different products on my eyes, I’ve chosen to share this product by Clinique because I think their products are really affordable for a decent product catered toward the younger generation.
12. Bioxidea Miracle Face Mask
Getting a little outside of the box here, I have to share my final (and perhaps most underrated) secret — miracle face masks. Whenever my skin gets angry with me (which is a lot considering what I put it through every day), this is my answer. These face masks are a little expensive at just over $2 per mask, but I can assure you, they are totally worth it. I find it best to have them shipped to my home address and only take a few with me on each trip for those ‘quick fix’ rescue me now type days.
