Checking In: Rivertown Guest House in Hudson

Rivertown Guest House is as close as you can come to living the upstate dream. This exclusive property in the city of Hudson is the work of Brigitte, a Swiss expat who has lived all over the world. For years she has been fixing up homes and now resides here in Hudson. While Brigitte lives downstairs, her home is open for guests upstairs. To put it simply, her home is divine.

Hudson is often considered the heart of upstate, with thanks to its huge creative community. There are also flourishing businesses that line the main street and Warren Street. You will find concept stores, cute cafes and vintage thrifts stores galore. Hudson is so charming you won’t want to leave!

We checked in to the upstairs apartment for two nights. The apartment was complete with a bedroom each, front living room, dining room, kitchen and garden access.

The apartment is beautifully appointed with vintage furniture and has a very French country home feel to it. While we spent two nights here in complete bliss, I’m sure we could have stayed longer. This is the kind of guest house you want to spend a week to relax and unwind. Hudson is also a great base to explore Upstate, as it is so centrally located. You can even catch the train from New York City if you prefer not to drive!

Weekend Guide to Upstate Neww York | WORLD OF WANDERLUST

A few days in Hudson

The beauty of Hudson is that it can be reached by direct train in just two hours from the city. Added to that, it is one of the most gorgeous small cities in all of upstate New York and has a strong creative community which keeps a variety of events on offer throughout the year and an ever-changing rotation of people passing through the city.

Warren Street is where you will find most of the cute cafes, restaurants and concept stores. There are endless stores to visit including many great thrift stores and antique shops, so be sure to allow a couple of days to explore the city in full. Keep in mind weekends are when many city dwellers make their way upstate, so accommodation offerings are often booked out weeks or months in advance. In contrast weekdays offer lower room rates and less crowds, especially in the colder months after the leaves have fallen and winter starts to settle in.
